I am on a mission to discover the ways Singapore is sustainable.
I chose the topic of sustainability because I felt that I did not think about this subject enough.
Even though it was a hot topic in the school that I did my untrained stint in, I never really felt engaged by the activities we did. This is when it dawned upon me that my understanding about this topic was very limited. How can I lead the students to care about the environment if I don’t?
Since I live in Woodlands, I decided to explore sustainability and culture in my area by following a heritage trail curated by National Parks. It is called Woodlands Heritage Trail: A journey through the Woods.
Woodlands has always been undeveloped forest, but communities were built around the woodlands and thrived. From rubber plantations, communities of refugees, and bases for the British Army, Woodlands has always been an integral part of Singapore’s culture and sustainability efforts.
This is a map.
There are 5 stops along my journey that I am going to explore.
2. The Ulu Sembawang Park Connector
3. Admiralty Park
4. The Woodlands Waterfront
5. Marsiling Park
My following blog posts will detail my journey and discoveries.
At each stop, I am going to explore the integration of culture, function and sustainability, and see how I can take these lessons back to the classroom.
See you at the next one!
